Charlotte Hornets trade Terry Rozier to Heat

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Hornets are trading one of its star players to the Miami Heat.

According to a news release shared by the team on Tuesday, the Hornets are trading shooting guard Terry Rozier to the Heat and getting a 2027 first-round draft pick and Kyle Lowry.

Rozier has been a reliable scorer for the Hornets this season - his 23.2 points per game ranks 25th in the league, according to ESPN statistics.

According to the Hornets, the 2027 first-round pick is lottery-protected but would convert to an unprotected pick in 2028.

The former first-round pick is going to a Miami team that is leading the Southeast Division with a 24-19 record. The Hornets earned their 10th win of the season beating the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.

“I want to thank Terry for all his efforts since coming to Charlotte,” Hornets GM Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. “On the court, he was a true professional and a great competitor who set a positive example for our young players. He also made himself a staple of the Charlotte community with his commitment to giving back. We wish him all the best in the future.”

Kupchak said the future first-round pick is an “asset ... to build long-term sustainable success around our young core of talented players.”
