Charlotte man arrested in connection with deadly shooting at Lincoln County campground

IRON STATION, N.C. — An 18-year-old Charlotte man has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal Aug. 23 shooting at Tuckers Grove Campground in Iron Station, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday.

Nakiyan Lamar Anderson was wanted on warrants for first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault on an individual with a disability stemming from the shooting, which occurred during a disturbance at the campground. The incident resulted in the death of 36-year-old Curtis Clayton Baxter III of Winston-Salem, the sheriff said.

Anderson was apprehended with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force in Charlotte.

He is being held without bond pending a first appearance in court. Authorities said the case remains under active investigation.
