CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With steady rain and falling leaves, Charlotte officials are worried about the storm drainage system and the roads.

Anchor John Paul saw water snaking its way through a pile of leaves from some storm drains. The water was starting to pool on the road, and that can lead to hydroplaning.

Channel 9 spoke with Water Services on Monday. Officials are asking residents to make sure storm drains are clear.

It doesn’t take many leaves to block a drain. They can also clog them, which can lead to a bigger problem, like flooding.

Charlotte Storm Water Services is watching some trouble spots where leaves were piled up by the drains. They raked them out of the way, and they're asking residents to do the same if possible.

People can also call 311 and let the city know about trouble spots.
