CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hundreds of runners took off their clothes in the South End neighborhood to help the homeless community.
The Strip It to Give It event is a unique race that started several years ago.

After each mile run, participants shed a layer of clothing that will be washed and distributed to people in need.

Katie Gregory, who came up with the concept, has been helping with homeless outreach in Charlotte for the past decade.
“If we look at the homeless, as just as people, we want to love our neighbors, and that's why we're out here today, loving our neighbors,” Gregory said.
Organizers say nearly 1,500 people can be found homeless in the streets of Charlotte in one night.
