CHARLOTTE — Organizers for Charlotte’s Thanksgiving parade are on high alert after a tragedy over the weekend during Raleigh’s Christmas parade.
An 11-year old girl was performing with her dance troupe when she was hit and killed.
Witnesses say a truck towing a float went out of control, hitting the girl.

Moira Quinn with Charlotte Center City Partners, which organizes Charlotte’s parade, says everyone behind the wheel for the event is professionally trained.
“We have a lot of safety policies in place that will make this a very safe parade,” Quinn said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are also making changes this year.
