CHARLOTTE — It pays to be a doctor in Charlotte.
In a new report focused on physician compensation, Charlotte ranked as the place where doctors earn the highest salaries of the nation’s top 50 metro areas. Charlotte-area doctors, with an average annual pay of $462,760, beat locales such as St. Louis: $452,219; Buffalo, New York: $426,440; Jacksonville, Florida: $425,706; and Orlando, Florida: $425,634, which placed among the top five, respectively.

The Queen City also came out on top in the ranking when physician compensation was adjusted for metros’ cost of living. Baltimore, on the other hand, had the lowest compensation in both sets of rankings, with physicians there making on average $330,917 this year.
Doximity (NYSE: DOCS), a newly public social-networking platform for health-care professionals, complied the report and released its findings earlier this month. Its fifth annual Physician Compensation Report drew from more than 40,000 full-time doctors who were surveyed in the past year.
