Charlotte trails two NC metros in study of ‘Best Places to Live' nationwide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queen City moved up on U.S News & World Report’s annual ranking of “Best Places to Live” across the nation, but it trailed the Raleigh-Durham and Asheville metropolitan areas in North Carolina.

Charlotte ranks at No. 20 in the 2019 analysis, which, based on public data and user opinions, seeks to determine the best U.S. metro areas for people to move and settle down. U.S News broke down the data into five categories: quality of life index, making up 30 percent of the overall score; value index, 25 percent; job market index, 20 percent; desirability index, 15 percent; and net migration, 10 percent.

Included in the study are 125 metro areas in the United States. Raleigh-Durham came in at No. 10, while Asheville placed at No. 16. Elsewhere in the Carolinas, Greenville, South Carolina, ranked at No. 22; Winston-Salem at No. 31; Charleston at No. 45; Greensboro at No. 66; Columbia at No. 67; and Myrtle Beach at No. 75.
