CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Water announced Monday that it will ease mandatory water restrictions.
The Catawba-Wateree River Basin has improved from Stage 2 to Stage 1 after recent rainfall boosted reservoir levels and stream flows.
Charlotte Water is now calling for voluntary water conservation. Officials are encouraging customers to continue the following conservation practices, though they are not required:
- Irrigate lawns and landscapes no more than two days per week, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Odd-numbered addresses: Tuesday and Saturday
- Even-numbered addresses: Wednesday and Sunday
- Top off residential swimming pools only on Thursdays and Sundays, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Reduce indoor and outdoor water use.
- Use drip irrigation, soaker hoses or hand-watering for plants and landscaping.
- Avoid operating water features that do not support aquatic life.
- Avoid power washing surfaces for non-essential purposes.
“Moving to voluntary conservation is an encouraging sign of progress, but the region’s recovery is still underway,” Angela Charles, Charlotte Water director, said in a release. “We are grateful to every customer who reduced water use, followed the restrictions and helped protect our shared water supply. Those efforts made a meaningful difference.”
