Chase ends when suspect crashes into Lenoir K-9 unit, officials say

LENOIR, N.C. — A high-speed chase that started Monday morning in Boone ended in Lenoir after the suspect collided with a police K-9 unit.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the chase started after authorities spotted a stolen vehicle.

The suspect is in custody but the identity has not been released.

Troopers chased the stolen vehicle for 25 miles before deploying stop sticks in the southbound lanes of Highway 321, which caused the vehicle to crash into the K-9 unit, according to officials.

The two officers and the dog are being check out, but are expected to be OK.
