LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A bluish cloud spotted over the Lancaster County water plant on Riverside Road Monday morning led to a hazmat situation.
Emergency crews were called to the water plant off Highway 5 near the Catawba River. The road was shut down after reports of a chemical leak at the plant.

The utility company said that a very small amount of chlorine dioxide, which is used to disinfect drinking water, leaked and formed a fog.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control was contacted, but the chemical was shut off and the leak was contained.
There were no evacuations or injuries and no impact on the drinking water.
