CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — Some Chester County deputies will receive new bulletproof vests thanks to a woman concerned for their safety.
Kim Desrosiers started a Facebook campaign after hearing the sheriff's office didn't have the money to buy vests.
People have already pledged $20,000 toward 25 vests.
Desrosiers said people are inspired to donate after recent threats of gang violence.
"Just the little idea that I posted on Facebook snowballed into getting the money because everybody worries about their safety with the gang issue going on right now," she said.
The money will be spent through the Sheriff's Foundation which raises support beyond the county's budget.
