CHESTER, S.C. — The Chester City Council didn't have the authority to rename a local park last month in honor of an 11-year-old boy who died in a car crash.
Channel 9's partners at The Herald report that Brooklyn Park is just down the road from where La'darious Wylie died after being hit by a car.

They said the city takes care of maintenance at the park but it's owned by the Brooklyn Center Trust.
Wylie was killed in late October while saving his sister from being hit by a car at their bus stop.
When the City Council meets Monday, the city administrator said she'll advise them of the mistake and that they must rescind the attempted name change.
