CHARLOTTE — A plan to revive the historic Excelsior Club will need $3 million of taxpayers dollars. That’s how much the developers are asking the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to kick in.

The total redevelopment plan is around $8 million. It calls for the building, which closed in 2016, to be torn down, but rebuilt as a close replica. Developers said they envision it as a modern juke joint, with live music and local artists.
Charlotte City Councilmembers will revisit the redevelopment plan at a later date.
