Clemson coach teams up with restaurant chain on Carolinas expansion

CHARLOTTE — A famed college football coach in the Carolinas has teamed up with a restaurant brand that’s long had an eye on expansion in the Queen City. Dabo Swinney, the head coach who’s led Clemson University to two national championship titles, is the latest franchisee for Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux & Bar.

That restaurant and sports bar franchise, which has ties to former NFL quarterback Drew Brees, has been targeting the Charlotte market since at least 2017, CBJ reported at the time. Brian Landry, founder and chief executive of Walk-On’s, told CBJ’s Jennifer Thomas in 2019 that he sees potential for multiple locations here.

Swinney will be working with Pavilion Group, an entity led by Pavilion Development Co.’s Rich Davies that also includes retired local Wells Fargo executive Kendall Alley, according to a press release. South Carolina’s The State newspaper reports Walk-On’s plans to open 15 restaurants across the Carolinas as part of its agreement with Pavilion Group and existing franchisee Carolina Eats, led by Jason Sadowski.
