CLOVER, S.C. — The Clover Police Department is teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving South Carolina for Saturation Saturday, increasing traffic safety enforcement across the Town of Clover this Saturday ahead of Labor Day weekend.
The enforcement initiative is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Officers are ramping up patrols during one of the busiest travel periods of the year to prevent roadway crashes, injuries and fatalities.
During the Saturation Saturday enforcement push, Clover police officers will actively look for impaired drivers and other dangerous driving behaviors throughout the town.
Det. Barnette, SCLEN liaison officer for the Clover Police Department, stressed that the high-visibility enforcement effort focuses on saving lives rather than making arrests.
“There is no excuse for driving impaired, especially when there are so many other ways to get home safely,” Barnette said. “Our goal with Saturation Saturday isn’t just to make arrests; it’s to prevent someone from being seriously hurt or killed. If you’re going to drink, make a plan before you start. Get a sober driver, call for a ride, or stay where you are.”
Police also reminded motorists that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol consumption. Any substance that alters a person’s capability to operate a motor vehicle safely puts passengers, drivers and everyone else on the road at risk.
Increased impaired driving traffic safety enforcement efforts will take place throughout the Town of Clover this Saturday ahead of the Labor Day weekend.
