CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 14-year-old boy is recovering after police said he was shot in the arm Saturday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to Fred Alexander Park in north Charlotte just before 3 p.m.

The teen and a group of friends were playing with the gun when it went off, investigators said.

The bullet penetrated the teen's arm and he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers determined the teen lives just yards away from the park on McAllister Drive.

Investigators interviewed the other teens involved as well as any adults with information.

Channel 9 is asking investigators who fired the gun, who the gun is registered to and how the teens got a hold of the weapon.

It's unclear if any charges will be filed in the case.

The investigation is ongoing.
