CHARLOTTE — Police officers responded to a homicide shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday near a cemetery in Uptown Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives said a passerby tried to help someone who was on the ground on West Ninth Street near North Graham Street.

“I do not believe at this time that there is any indication that the person was visiting any of the nearby locations, such as The Music Factory,” said CMPD Maj. Ryan Jackson.

The man, 37-year-old Jaimeo Sanchez Simpson, died from traumatic injuries at the scene, but CMPD didn’t say how he died.

Officers were investigating near The AvidXchange Music Factory but police do not think it’s connected.

The investigation is ongoing.
