CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A West Charlotte family was forced to find another place to sleep Thursday night after someone fired several gunshots into their home early that morning.
Collette Steele found a bullet lying in her front yard. She believes it's one of at least 20 rounds fired by a gunman standing outside her home on Ridge Avenue.
Just after 1 a.m., Dallas and Collette Steele, 73- and 53-years-old respectively, and their 21-year-old son were sleeping when the gunfire woke them up.
Steele counted at least 15 bullet holes just in her house and eight more in her car.
Steele said that she and her husband, who is now retired, have lived at the home for more than a decade.
She said her family wants peace and she has no idea who would want to hurt them.
"I don't do nothing to (anyone)," she said. "I just go to work, come home like a normal person does."
Steele said her home was also targeted just a week ago when someone drove up and fired several shots into her car.
Steele did not see who fired the shots.
Police are investigating both incidents.
