CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating its third homicide in two days after a man was found shot in west Charlotte on Thursday evening.

CMPD said officers were called to Markland Drive near Old Steele Creek Road at about 10:45 p.m. for an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived, police said they found Brandon Adams-Jones, 29, who had been shot. MEDIC said he died at the scene.

Investigators did not have any information immediately available about if they are looking for a suspect in connection to the case.

CMPD asks anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a detective. Information can also be left anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or by clicking here.

A Channel 9 crew at the scene saw more than 15 police vehicles and at least a dozen officers in the neighborhood. Crime tape and evidence markers could be seen blocking the street.

The homicide investigation was the third CMPD conducted within 48 hours. The first was on Wednesday night, when officers found Aveon Baker shot outside a Wendy’s near Northlake Mall. The second was in east Charlotte Thursday morning. Police said they were called to Riding Trail Road for a report of a suspicious person. They said that when they arrived, they found a man with “apparent trauma,” who died at the scene.
