CHARLOTTE — Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department hosted the Drone Community Trust Training event on Saturday with the goal of teaching people how to fly drones safely.

The event was held at the Police Activities League on Spring Street, just off Statesville Avenue.

Those who came were offered a two-hour course courtesy of the FAA. In addition to safety, visitors learned about different job opportunities within the drone industry. First responders also shared how drones are used to keep the Queen City community safe.

Parvati Madduri, a drone pilot, spoke with Channel 9 about the importance of understanding the regulations to keep yourself and others safe.

“Knowing what you’re doing is very critical,” Madduri told Channel 9. “We start with the regulations because this is a safety issue; we don’t want to do something knowingly or unknowingly and injure someone.”

The event was sponsored by CMPD, the Carolina Aviation Museum, and Dronescape.
