CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a crash Friday involving a pedestrian in the 10700 block of Steele Creek Road, according to a news release.
The pedestrian, Melvin Givens, was walking across Steele Creek Road near the intersection of Branch Bend Lane when he was struck by a 2007 Kia driven by Milton Dennis Sayers.
MEDIC arrived and transported the pedestrian to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with life threatening injuries.
Sayers and three teenage passengers in the Kia were not injured.
Givens died Saturday morning as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The Major Crash Investigations Unit of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to investigate the crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.
