Emergency crews responded to the Johnston Creek Crossings on Cedar Trail Lane just before 4 a.m. and found the victim had been shot at an apartment. Officials said the man was shot in the foot and his injuries were non-life threatening.

Police had set up a perimeter along Highway 51 and Park Road and also called K-9 units out to search for two black males who were seen running from the scene.

Police said it doesn’t appear that the victim knew the suspects. Officials did not identify a motive for the shooting and said it doesn’t appear that the suspects stole anything.

Channel 9 searched crime reports within a quarter of a mile of the shooting and found that in the past six months there have been 14 incidents. Most were larceny and vandalism calls but there was a report of an aggravated assault with a gun.

One woman who lives at the complex told Channel 9 she's always felt safe, until now.

"It's very quiet, very peaceful. Now that I heard the gunshots this morning, it's amazing. It scared me," she said.

Investigators have not said what led to the shooting.
