CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police told Channel 9 a second person has been arrested in connection with a shooting outside a popular South End club last month that left a man in critical condition.

Last week police arrested 29-year-old Marteries Southern and on Thursday morning were able to take 28-year-old Cameron McVay into custody.

Investigators told Channel 9 that there was an altercation between several people inside the Oak Room and when the bar closed, a huge fight broke out in the parking lot of the Gin Mill and Tavern on the Tracks, and that’s when the man was shot multiple times at close range.

On May 26, officers were called to the 200 block of East Bland Street around 2:30 a.m. for an assault call and when they arrived they found a man shot in the parking lot.

He was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries where he underwent emergency surgery.

Channel 9 saw dozens of shell casings and evidence markers in the parking lot.

Witnesses gave police a description of the getaway vehicle but officers told Channel 9 they weren't able to verify it because of the way cameras in the parking lot were positioned.

The violence happened in a very popular part of Charlotte, as the Oak Room sits right between Slate and the All American Pub -- two places that are always crowded.

Witnesses to the shooting told Channel 9 it was a scary evening after hearing several shots and seeing a person laying in the parking lot.

"You hear at night when the clubs let out there are always arguments,” said Brandon Moore. “It never ends in gunshots but you think it may escalate to it."

The shooting happened just days after a man was shot at another popular South End spot -- the Midnight Diner.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
