CMPD officer placed on unpaid leave following arrest

CHARLOTTE — An officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department was placed on unpaid leave after she was arrested and charged with simple assault Tuesday.

According to a release from the department, Officer Ana Mora Terrero was off duty at the time of the incident.

Police said they obtained a warrant for her arrest following a voluntary interview with Mora Terrero. She turned herself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

CMPD Internal Affairs is conducting a separate internal investigation. Mora Terrero will remain on leave pending the outcome.

“Over the past several months, we have seen several incidents involving CMPD employees that have been both disappointing and deeply concerning. I want to be clear: when an officer violates the law or our policies, we will act swiftly, thoroughly, and transparently. No one in this department is above accountability,” Chief Estella Patterson said in the release. “While the actions of a few have not met the expectations of this profession, they do not represent the integrity and dedication of the vast majority of CMPD officers who serve our community honorably every day.”

Officer Mora Terrero was hired on Feb. 26, 2024, and is currently assigned to the North Tryon Division.
