CMPD officer under federal investigation for gun purchases

CHARLOTTE — A CMPD officer is under investigation by the feds, according to multiple sources who spoke with Channel 9 Crime Reporter Hunter Sáenz.

Sources told Channel 9 that a Metro Division officer was allegedly buying guns for a convicted felon.

Sources said that during a separate incident, a suspect was arrested with guns. When those guns were traced, the officer’s name was on the form used to purchase them.

Channel 9 is not naming the officer at this time because no charges have been filed.

CMPD confirmed to Sáenz that the officer was put on unpaid leave as of Sept. 30.
