CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UPDATE: Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charged Robert Cloud with animal cruelty after being accused of pepper-spraying a dog.
Police said he turned himself in after his photo was shown on TV.
On Jan. 13, while at the 7-11 gas station at 12710 S. Tryon Street, Cloud walked up to the Emory Walker's vehicle that was parked in the parking lot, police said. Walker's dog Tank was inside the truck.
Cloud then sprayed pepper spray inside the vehicle through the small opening in the window that the victim left for the Tank.
Walker takes his Tank with him almost everywhere and people seem to love him.
He said he went out to the truck right after the incident.
“It choked me,” he said. “When I got in here, I started choking like ‘what's that?’”
The pepper spray caused pain and irritation to the dog but no permanent injury, according to CMPD.
“I’m hoping it’s not blinding him,” Walker said.
