Officers said they were notified by the Real Time Crime Center of a license plate reader hit on a stolen vehicle near South Boulevard. As police tried to get that vehicle to stop, officers said the two people inside the car jumped out and ran.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene around 11:30 a.m. on Amay James Avenue near West Boulevard and could see a large police presence throughout the neighborhood.
Officers were cautiously moving through the neighborhood, sometimes with their guns drawn.
Two men were placed into custody.
Jeffery Alonso Taylor and Jornell Eugene Bess each face multiple charges including possession of a stolen vehicle.
Channel 9 reporter Ken Lemon arrived on the scene but officers told him to get back because they were "looking for people with guns in the area."
"Officers with big guns, when I tell you, big guns," witness and nearby resident Martha Moore said.
She said officers told her to be careful because the suspects had guns.
"I'm glad they caught them,” resident William Pettis said.
No further information has been released.
