Community advocate, school bus driver Carolyn Stewart passes away at 75

CHARLOTTE — Carolyn Inez Nelson Stewart, a longtime community advocate, missionary, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus driver, has died at 75.

Stewart spent more than 20 years with the district, ensuring children arrived at school safely. She also mentored Charlotte’s youth.

Stewart is the mother of Garcia Nelson, a community activist and president of “Be You Be Great.”

Stewart passed away on June 19.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday.
