GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A community unveiled a memorial for a 3-year old Gaston County girl who was murdered last year.

The group gathered Saturday to dedicate a bench in memory of Jordyn Dumont.

Under Dumont’s name, it reads, “May you find comfort in the arms of an angel."

Carl Crook, a family friend, plans to talk to county commissioners about putting the bench outside the Gaston County Courthouse.

"We're just going to do everything we can for this little child to make sure her name is never forgotten,” Crook said.

A local company, which donated the bench and a 9-year-old girl who helped raise more than $500 for Dumont’s memorial service, organized the dedication.

"I stand here as a proud mother of what my child has done and in awe of her,” Michelle Price, the 9-year-old's mother, said. “And as oddly as it sounds, I look up to my 9-year-old."

Billy McCullen, who was Dumont’s mother’s boyfriend, is awaiting trial for the murder.
