Community discusses rash of break-ins in south Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Neighbors sounded off about a string of recent crimes in their community.

People living in the Beverly Woods community of south Charlotte met Thursday night at a church to talk about their concerns after several break-ins happened while families were on vacation.

"Pleased to know that my neighbors are looking out for me because we're concerned about the same thing," said resident Cindy Lickert.

Tracy Dunnagan has lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and she's seen the crime trends go up and down before.

"This happens every three or four years. We get a little rash," she said.

Police said in the last month, they've seen seven break-ins. They all happened while the families were on vacation.

Police outlined their plans to target the criminals at the meeting. They've already stepped up patrols in the neighborhood, and people here have noticed.

"They're very in tune with the community and they're concerned. And they want to make sure we're aware," said resident Allen Amos.

Police said like in any neighborhood, the best defense is having residents watch out for each other.
