MATTHEWS, N.C. — A local flooring company surprised Lillian Simpson, 84, on Monday with presents for her family. Simpson depends on Social Security benefits to raise her two grandchildren.

Simpson and her grandchildren have been living on concrete floors at their Matthews home.

"It was so cold on the cement, you know, and we had a little throw rug, but that wasn't cutting it," Simpson said.

"It's a blessing to be able to be in a position to help someone out during the holidays,” Alli Watson, with Watson Installations, said.

Watson Installations added carpet to their home for free.

Simpson said this was a perfect surprise just in time for Christmas.
