Con artists can pose as officials with NC Department of Revenue

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Scammers don't just pose as Internal Revenue Service officials. Action 9 found they also pretend to be with the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Officials said they can seem even more believable because the real IRS will never threaten you by phone, so people know the call is bogus.

The state does call people who owe taxes. The phone call could be legitimate.
