CONCORD, N.C. — The Parkway Crossing Apartments complex was under lockdown Thursday after police said there were reports of a man outside with a gun.

The man’s family asked for a welfare check on him.

The man lived at the apartment complex and sent family members bizarre texts just before 3 p.m., officials said.

Authorities set a perimeter around the complex, located on Samuel Adams Circle, at about 5:30 p.m.

No one was allowed into the complex, and residents were asked to stay inside during the search.

At about 8 p.m., law enforcement discovered the man who apparently shot himself, resulting in his death.

He fired two to three gunshots in the area then ran off when police arrived, officials said.
