Could $85M acquisition of uptown parking deck spell future redevelopment?

CHARLOTTE — A large uptown parking deck has sold to a frequent investor in Charlotte, suggesting a future redevelopment could be in the works.

Atlanta-based Cousins Properties Inc. has acquired the parking deck of BB&T Center, at the corner of East Third and South College streets, for $85 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records.

Cousins purchased the 11-story, 1,520-space deck from Arden Group out of Philadelphia, which paid $148.5 million for the tower and parking deck in 2017. Arden continues to own BB&T Center.
