CHARLOTTE, N.C. — They aren't there to eat up your mosquitoes.

They're not there to nibble on you, either.

Crane fly populations are increasing in North Carolina with the wet and warm weather providing premium breeding conditions, and many viewers are asking just what these giant, spindly, mosquito-looking creatures are all about.

“It’s one of the main calls we’ve been receiving,” he said. “A lot of people (are) concerned about what they’re seeing. They think it’s a large mosquito.”

Chris Moore, at Killingsworth Environmental, said calls about the bugs are increasing as well.
