MONROE, N.C. — A 24-year-old Monroe man is facing multiple child exploitation charges following an investigation into the downloading and sharing of child sexual abuse material.
Christian Williams was arrested after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a local apartment.
The Monroe Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation executed the search warrant Wednesday at a residence on Commerce Drive after receiving a cybertip.
Williams was subsequently charged with five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Williams was transported to the Union County Detention Center, where he remains in custody.
Monroe Police Chief Rhett Bolen emphasized the department’s commitment to handling exploitation cases despite their complexity.
“These are some of the most difficult investigations our detectives are tasked to handle,” Bolen said. “Our investigators understand that this work is necessary, even when it is so difficult. Protecting children and holding those who exploit them accountable is a responsibility this agency takes very seriously.”
