CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person died Sunday morning in a crash on northbound Interstate 85 near Exit 30, officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

Around 5 a.m., the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer, troopers said.

Paramedics said one man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police shut down northbound lanes of I-85 for nearly four hours due to the crash.

Troopers later identified the driver who died as Kelly Mason of Bessemer City.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation later reopened the interstate.
