MONROE, N.C. — A deadly crash shut down a Monroe road Wednesday morning, police said.
Goldmine Road was closed around 10:20 a.m.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew overhead the crash and could see investigators at the scene. Two cars appeared to be involved; both had serious damage to their fronts. One of the car’s front wheels appeared to be disconnected from its cabin.
An initial investigation has revealed that Laney may have suffered a medical emergency while operating her vehicle, crossed over the center line and struck the other vehicle involved.

Police said 80-year-old Mary Melton Laney died in the crash. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries.
Police said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors involved in this accident.
