Deer causes traffic backups on John Belk Freeway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An incident involving a deer caused some traffic delays in Charlotte on Thursday morning.

A car struck a deer on the inner loop of the John Belk Freeway, near the Stonewall exit, around 8:15 a.m.

Police had to shut down the loop as the deer wandered around.

Animal Control was called in. They tranquilized the deer and took it away.

The deer then ran into the Bob Walton Plaza parking lot.

Traffic got moving about half an hour after the deer was initially hit.
