CHARLOTTE — The old Excelsior Club is officially demolished.
It took crews about three weeks to take down the iconic building in west Charlotte.

The nightclub opened in 1944 and eventually closed in 2016.
It was once a popular social and political hub for Charlotte’s Black community.
City council will vote next month on rezoning the property, so construction can start.
Developers plan to open a near-replica in its place in 2028.
