Deputies: Duffel bag filled with ammunition, pipe bombs found along Cleveland County road

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after deputies found a duffel bag with pipe bombs and ammunition on the side of the road Thursday.

The bag was found along Pleasant Hill Church Road while deputies were searching the area for evidence in a different case.

When deputies opened the duffel bag, they found ammunition, black powder and what appeared to be four pipe bombs.

Authorities said Gaston County’s Hazardous Device Unit was called in to help and they were able to detonate all the devices.

Officials said the bag was wet and appeared to have been in the area for several days before it was found.
