Deputies find 7 pounds of marijuana after man refuses to unlock car door

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A man is behind bars after deputies said they caught him with seven pounds of marijuana in his car in Rowan County.

Around noon on Wednesday, deputies were called about a suspicious vehicle parked in an open lot on Pine Ridge Road.

Deputies spotted the car and walked up to it. Inside was 28-year-old Daniel Morton, officials said. Deputies said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car as Morton got out.

He was arrested for obstructing an officer and the vehicle was then opened. Inside, deputies found seven pounds of marijuana packaged in plastic bags.

Morton then locked his car and would not let deputies search it, according to the sheriff’s office.

Morton was also charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle to keep and store a controlled substance.

He was jailed under a $3,000 secured bond.
