TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. — A man was seriously hurt after falling approximately 20 feet from a popular Western North Carolina waterfall, WLOS reported.
Deputies said the incident happened Saturday at Looking Glass Falls in Pisgah National Forest. According to authorities, a 30-year-old man fell into shallow water.

Officials said he did not fall from the top, but from a ledge near the side of the falls. Bystanders helped get the man to an observation area, where paramedics met them.
The man was then flown to Mission Hospital in Asheville with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.
“We just want to reiterate that people need to be extremely cautious not only around the waterfalls, but any time they are in the water. The rocks are very slick, and one slip can cause serious injuries or even be fatal. We ask that visitors heed warning signs and stay in the designated recreation areas,” said Wesley Kreigsman, public information officer with Transylvania County Rescue Squad.
No other details have been released.
