Deputy breaks arm chasing man after high-speed pursuit in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A deputy was hurt while chasing down a man after a high-speed pursuit early Monday morning in Lincoln County.

Officials said a deputy was driving west on Highway 73 around 2 a.m. when he got behind a white Ford Explorer driven by 21-year-old Jhamari Sowell.

According to deputies, when the cruiser got close to the truck, Sowell sped off toward Business Highway 16, crashed on Ben McLain Lane and hopped out.

Several deputies chased Sowell through some woods behind a home.

When Deputy M. Farra finally caught up with him, officials said the deputy broke his arm while trying to make the arrest.

Farra and Sowell were both taken to a hospital for treatment.

Sowell has been charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, driving while impaired, no operator's license and failing to stop for a stop sign.
