Derek Jeter: 4-5 months recovery from surgery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has had surgery to repair a broken left ankle.

Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina operated Saturday in Charlotte.

The Yankees said complete recovery for their 38-year-old captain is expected to take four-to-five months.

He could miss the team's spring training.

Jeter was injured Oct. 13 in the 12th inning of the AL championship series against Detroit while trying to field a grounder. The Tigers went on to sweep the Yankees.
