Developer outlines plans for final phase of SouthPark project

CHARLOTTE — Local developer Childress Klein has filed a rezoning petition for the final phase of its Apex SouthPark mixed-use project.

The rezoning will modify the existing approved rezoning to allow for the development of 400 residential units. The new plan eliminates a previously planned office component under the original 2015 rezoning petition. The 2.23-acre site on Sharon Road, across from SouthPark Mall is currently zoned for mixed-use development and residential. The petition will change the zoning to regional activity center, conditional under the city’s unified development ordinance, which takes effect in June.

The RAC zoning allows for a maximum height of up to 275 feet, though the site plan shows the multifamily building won’t go above 250 feet.
