NORTH CAROLINA — In North Carolina, farmers were already dealing with drought losses.
Now, high diesel prices are making their industry even more expensive.
The Byrd family farms in Harnett County and says the higher fuel costs, combined with lower crop productions, are squeezing already thin profit margins.
“It just makes our profit margins even thinner,” the family said. “It was already thin, but it’s just as thin as a piece of paper.”
Some North Carolina farmers took their concerns to Washington, D.C., explaining to lawmakers the financial challenges they’re facing.
