MONROE, N.C. — A Monroe police officer shot and killed Fransico Javier Montes-Hernandez on Alda Drive on Sunday following an armed confrontation.
The shooting occurred after the officer responded to a break-in call at the location.
Doorbell camera footage shows a physical struggle between the officer and Montes-Hernandez, during which both men ended up pointing firearms at each other.

The woman who called 911 shared the doorbell camera video with reporters.
She stated that Montes-Hernandez previously lived with her at the Alda Drive residence, but she had asked him to leave prior to the incident.
Audio from the doorbell camera captured the confrontation between the officer and Montes-Hernandez.
The recording shows the officer issued eight warnings to drop the gun within a 24-second timeframe.
During the encounter, a Monroe police officer pleaded with Montes-Hernandez to lower his weapon.
“Drop the gun now. Please don’t make me kill you. Don’t make me kill you,” the officer said.
The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.
Officers involved in police shootings are typically investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation.
