CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Volunteers gathered in uptown Charlotte Thursday morning to walk the streets, counting the number of people who are homeless.

The “point-in-time” count happens annually and is required by housing and urban development.
It helps the city and county get more federal funding to help the homeless.
