CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CityLYNX Gold Line service has resumed after police said a woman crashed into a trolley shelter in uptown Charlotte early Monday.

Officials said the crash happened around 3 a.m. at the shelter at 604 East Trade Street near Davidson Street.

Charlotte Area Transit System officials said the crash damaged the shelter and blocked both tracks, which resulted in the suspension of streetcar service.

"You get no notification that it's down," streetcar rider Ramon Convia said. "It's really frustrating when you are trying to get home or get to work."

Police said 25-year-old Carmel Woodard was taken into custody in connection with the crash and charged with hit-and-run.

Crews spent hours cleaning up glass and debris, and CATS officials said trolley service resumed around 11 a.m.

A CATS spokesperson said they have three trollies. Two of them are in for maintenance and only one is in use.

CATS officials said the trolley once stopped every 15 minutes and is now a stopping every 30 minutes at best.

Ramon Convia wondered why CATS hasn’t installed digital signs to let riders know about delays and arrival times.

"The amount of taxes we are paying, they can afford that," Convia said.

A CATS spokesperson said that they post delays on Twitter and Facebook but some riders don’t know that.

Several riders said they aren't on social media.

CATS officials said they have no future plans to put up digital signs with an estimated time of arrival.
